SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Graduate student forward
Chase Paar (Mount Airy, Md./Glenelg Country School/Towson) scored 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Shepherd University (13-6, 9-3 PSAC) to a 59-36 win over Kutztown (7-12, 3-9 PSAC) in PSAC men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Saturday.
Paar connected on 5-of-12 field goals with a 9-of-11 effort from the line. He added a pair of blocked shots and an assist.
Sophomore guard
Marcus Banks (Clinton, Md./Riverdale Baptist) added 11 points, five rebounds, three assists, and a steal. Senior guard
Jarod Robinson (Laurel, Md./Glenelg Country School) had seven points and nine boards, while senior forward
Carson Poffenberger (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) posted game-high efforts of 10 rebounds and four assists.
Jalen Bryant had 21 points and six rebounds to lead the Golden Bears.
Shepherd had a 26-19 lead at the break.
Kutztown rallied from a 12-point second-half deficit to get to within six points at 42-36 with 7:47 remaining after a jumper by Jaiden McGhee. Shepherd closed the game on a 17-0 run to seal the victory.
Shepherd connected on 40 percent (22-55) of its field goals with a 23.8 percent (5-21) performance from three-point range for the game. The Rams drained 66.7 percent (10-15) of their free throws.
Kutztown shot 27.8 percent (15-54) from the floor with a 20 percent (3-15) effort from beyond the arc. The Golden Bears hit 33.3 percent (3-9) from the foul line.
Shepherd had a 50-28 advantage in rebounding. The Rams forced six turnovers and committed 11.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Shippensburg for an 8 p.m. contest.
