SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Abbey Hearn had a team-high 18 points and nine rebounds to lead Kutztown (11-10, 6-6 PSAC) to a 58-52 win over Shepherd (4-15, 1-12 PSAC) in PSAC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Saturday.
Freshman forward
Lamaria Estridge (Walkersville, Md./St. Andrew's Episcopal) scored a career-high 24 points to lead the Rams. She connected on 10-of-14 field goals with a 4-of-6 effort from the foul line. She added a team-high three steals.
Sophomore guard
Samiyah Nasir (Gwynn Oak, Md./Howard/College of Saint Rose) added nine points and three assists. Sophomore forward
Carmaya Bowman (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) contributed four points and a team-high seven rebounds. Sophomore guard
Kara Wehner (Staten Island/N.Y/ Xaverian) added seven points and three boards, while sophomore guard
Cassidy Rhodes (Point of Rocks, Md./Brunswick) added five rebounds.
Naia Pulliam added 17 points and six rebounds for the Golden Bears. Olivia Smelas grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.
The Rams had a 32-26 lead at the half.
Kutztown took its first lead of the game at 50-49 after a three-pointer by Smelas with 5:41 left in the game. The Golden Bears closed the game on an 8-3 run to capture the win.
Shepherd had a 41.5 percent (22-53) field goal percentage with a 17.6 percent effort (3-17) effort from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit 50 percent (5-10) from the foul line.
Kutztown connected on 36.4 percent (20-55) of its field goals with 32.0 percent effort (8-25) from three-point range. The Golden Bears hit 58.8 percent (10-17) of their free throws.
The Golden Bears had a 39-33 rebounding advantage. Shepherd forced 19 turnovers and committed 17.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Shippensburg for a 6 p.m. game.
