Shepherd Men Handle Mansfield

MANSFIELD, Pa. – Graduate student forward Chase Paar (Mount Airy, Md./Glenelg Country School/Towson) scored a game-high 20 points to lead Shepherd University (9-6, 5-3 PSAC) to a 94-57 win over Mansfield (5-9, 2-5 PSAC)  in PSAC men's basketball action at Mansfield on Wednesday night.

Paar hit 7-of-13 field goals with a 1-of-2 effort from three-point range. He was 5-of-5 from the foul line. Paar also grabbed 10 rebounds.

Senior forward Carson Poffenberger (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) added 15 points, while sophomore forward Cole Paar (Mount Airy, Md./Glenelg Country School/Towson) tossed in 13.

Shepherd had five players in double figures as sophomore guard Marcus Banks (Clinton, Md./Riverdale Baptist) had 12 points and freshman guard Brody Davis (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) had 11. Banks handed out a game-high five assists.

Senior guard Jarod Robinson (Laurel, Md./Glenelg Country School) had seven points and a game-high 11 rebounds, while freshman forward Favor Okigweh (Edgewood, Md./Parkville/The Winchedon School) contributed eight points and eight rebounds.        

Sterling Scott led the Mountaineers with 13 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Owen Chambers added nine points.
 
Shepherd had a 38-26 lead at the break behind 14 points from Chase Paar.

The Rams outscored Mansfield 56-31 in the second half to pull away for the victory.

Shepherd connected on 49.3 percent (37-75) of its field goals with a 36 percent (9-25) performance from three-point range for the game. The Rams drained 78.6 percent (11-14) of their free throws.

Mansfield shot 35 percent (21-60) from the floor with a 28 percent (7-25) effort from beyond the arc. The Mountaineers hit 61.5 percent (8-13) from the foul line.

Shepherd had a 58-24 rebounding edge. The Rams forced seven turnovers and committed nine.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Millersville for a 3 p.m. game.
