Colby White (Buckingham, Va./Blue Ridge) scored 22 points and junior guard
Marcus Banks (Clinton, Md./Riverdale Baptist) added 20 to lead Shepherd University (3-0) to a 76-66 win over Bowie State (0-4) in men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Wednesday night.
White connected on 7-of-12 field goals with a 4-of-5 effort from three-point range. He was 2-for-2 from the line. Banks connected on 4-of-12 field goals with a 1-of-3 effort from beyond the arc. He was 11-of-16 from the foul line. Banks added game-high efforts of six assists and four steals.
Sophomore guard
Elwyne Wordlaw (Frederick, Md./Frederick) added nine points, while sophomore guard
Brody Davis (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) had eight points and six rebounds. Sophomore forward
Favor Okigweh (Edgewood, Md./Parkville/The Winchedon School) had six points and a game-high eight boards. Sophomore forward
Daouda Traore (Silver Spring, Md./Clinton Grace Christian/St. Thomas Aquinas) contributed seven points.
Guy Fauntleroy scored a game-high 28 points to lead the Bulldogs. Justin Morrisey added 20 points and six rebounds.
Shepherd had a 34-33 advantage at halftime.
The Rams saw a 15-point second-half lead dwindle down to five points at 71-66 after a three-pointer by Fauntleroy with 1:20 left in regulation. The Rams closed the game on a 5-0 run to cap the victory.
Shepherd connected on 45.3 percent (24-53) of its field goals with a 47.1 percent (8-17) performance from three-point range. The Rams drained 76.9 percent (20-26) of their free throws.
Bowie State shot 45.6 percent (26-57) from the floor with a 30.8 percent (8-26) effort from beyond the arc. The Bulldogs hit 37.5 percent (6-16) from the foul line.
Shepherd had a 42-27 advantage in rebounds. The Rams forced 11 turnovers and committed 15.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to West Liberty for a 4 p.m. contest.
