Mike Montana scored 25 points and grabbed nine
rebounds to lead Frostburg State (2-2) to a 105-83 win over to Shepherd University (3-2) in men's basketball action at Frostburg State on Wednesday.
Freshman guard
Colby White (Buckingham, Va./Blue Ridge) scored a game-high 31 points to pace the Rams. He was 11-of-20 from the floor with a 7-of-11 effort from three-point range. He was 2-of-3 from the foul line.
Junior guard
Marcus Banks (Clinton, Md./Riverdale Baptist) added 19 points and a game-high seven assists. Sophomore forward
Daouda Traore (Silver Spring, Md./Clinton Grace Christian/St. Thomas Aquinas) was also in double figures with 10 points, while sophomore forward
Favor Okigweh (Edgewood, Md./Parkville/The Winchedon School) grabbed a team-high eight boards.
Trey Simmons had 23 points and Kyle Whippen added 22 for the Bobcats.
Frostburg State had a
50-37 lead at the half.
Shepherd connected on 53.3 percent (32-60) of its field goals with a 45 percent (9-20) performance from three-point range. The Rams drained 58.8 percent (10-17) of their free throws.
Frostburg State shot 54.8 percent (40-73) from the floor with a 50 percent (14-28) effort from beyond the arc. The Bobcats hit 78.6 percent (11-14) from the foul line.
Frostburg State had a 37-30 advantage on the boards. The Rams forced seven turnovers and committed 13.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they host Virginia Union for a 7 p.m. game.
