SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore guard
Brody Davis (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) scored a game-high 19 points for the Rams, but Virginia Union (6-1)
recorded a
68-49
win over Shepherd (3-3) in men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Wednesday night.
Davis connected 7-of-10 field goals with a 5-of-7 effort from three-point range.
Sophomore guard
Elwyne Wordlaw (Frederick, Md./Frederick) and freshman guard
Colby White (Buckingham, Va./Blue Ridge) each added eight points. White also handed out a game-high seven assists.
Sophomore forward
Favor Okigweh (Edgewood, Md./Parkville/The Winchedon School) grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
Noah Richardson-Keyes and Bobby Gardner each scored 13 points to pace the Panthers. Elijah Scranton added 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Virginia Union had a 32-25 advantage at the break.
The Panthers opened the second half on a 14-5 run to take a 16-point lead at 46-30 to take control of the contest.
Shepherd connected on 34.5 percent (19-55) of its field goals with a 29 percent (9-31) performance from three-point range. The Rams drained 67 percent (2-3) of their free throws.
Virginia Union shot 50 percent (29-58) from the floor with a 35.7 percent (5-14) effort from beyond the arc. The Panthers hit 62.5 percent (5-8) from the foul line.
Virginia Union had a 36-32 advantage in rebounds. The Rams forced five turnovers and committed 10.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Gannon for a 1 p.m. contest.
