Shepherd Football Downs Lock Haven for Sixth Straight Win

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Redshirt junior running back Jordan Barnett (Fredericksburg, Va./Colonial Forge/FUMA/Southern Utah) rushed 18 times for 131 yards and a pair of touchdowns,  and graduate student quarterback Michael Hardyway (Winchester, Cal./Oceanside/Bucknell) completed 23-of-31 passes for 303 yards and two scores to lead Shepherd (6-4, 6-1 PSAC East) to a 35-19 win over Lock Haven (5-5, 4-2 PSAC East) in PSAC East football action at Lock Haven on Saturday afternoon.

Shepherd took a 7-0  lead when Hardyway teamed with redshirt senior wide receiver Malakai Brown (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) on a 49-yard scoring strike with 13:08 left in the second quarter, Sophomore kicker Keith Baker (Prince Frederick, Md./Calvert) added the extra point.

Hardyway connected with junior wide receiver Kordell Batten (Waldorf, Md./St. Charles) on a 13-yard scoring toss with 4:25 left in the second quarter to give the Rams a 14-0 advantage at halftime.

Barnett opened the scoring in the second half with a two-yard plunge with 9:40 left in the third quarter to up the Shepherd lead to 21-0.

Lock Haven scored a pair of touchdowns over a two-minute span at the end of the third quarter to cut the deficit to 21-13. Jackson Ostrowsky teamed with Justin Popovich on a three-yard scoring pass with 2:02 left, and Ostrowsky later connected with Evan Sylstra on a 12-yard score with three seconds remaining.

The Rams added a 49-yard scoring jaunt from Barnett with 13:29 left in the fourth quarter, and graduate student running back Grant Swinehart (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby/VMI) scored from one yard out with 8:16 left to give the Rams a 35-13 advantage.

The Bald Eagles added a score as Ostrowsky and Popovich teamed on a 10-yard scoring toss with 5:54 left.
Ostrowsky completed 34-of-51 for 336 yards for the Bald Eagles.

Brown had six catches for 121 yards to pace the Rams. Batten added 10 catches for 91 yards. Popovich had eight receptions for 99 yards for Lock Haven.
Swinehart added 13 carries for 31 yards for the Rams. Damar Green had 10 carries for 58 yards for the Bald Eagles.

Shepherd gained 467 yards of total offense, and Lock Haven totaled 407.

Redshirt senior Geo-Di Tolbert (Upper Marlboro, Md./Frederick Douglass/Fairmont State) posted seven tackles (six solos) to lead the Shepherd defense. Junior linebacker Devin Harper (Centreville, Va./Centreville/Lackawanna/Albany) (three solos) and junior defensive back Makai Young (White Plains, Md./North Point) (five solos) each added six stops. Young also had a pair of tackles-for-loss (-three yards).
     
Redshirt junior defensive back Will Ennis (Millersville, Md./Old Mill), graduate student defensive back Klayton Batten (Waldorf, Md./St. Charles), and junior defensive back Uchenna Ibe (Laurel, Md./Glen Burnie/Wagner) each added an interception to lead the secondary.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Seton Hill for Senior Day at noon.

Notes: Barnett (1,128) went over 1,000 rushing yards on the season ... Malakai Brown (1,075) went over 1,000 receiving yards for his career ... Hardyway passed for 300 yards or more for the third time this season ... Klayton Batten now leads the Rams with five interceptions on the season.
