Shepherd Men Top Seton Hill in Overtime

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore guard Elwyne Wordlaw (Frederick, Md./Frederick) scored a game-high 22 points to lead Shepherd (4-4, 1-1 PSAC)  to a 66-63 win over Seton Hill (7-2, 1-1 PSAC)  in PSAC men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Saturday afternoon.

Wordlaw connected on 9-of-16 field goals with a 4-of-9 effort from three-point range.

Junior guard Marcus Banks (Clinton, Md./Riverdale Baptist) recorded a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. He added game-high efforts of seven assists and four steals. Sophomore guard Brody Davis (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) tossed in 11 points, while sophomore forward Favor Okigweh (Edgewood, Md./Parkville/The Winchedon School) contributed nine points and 10 rebounds.

Camden Brewer led the Griffins with 21 points. Kedrick Curtis had 14 points, 12 rebounds, and six assists. Edir Ortiz added 12 points, eight boards, and three assists. 

Seton Hill had a 35-28 lead at the break behind 13 first-half points from Brewer.

Seton Hill led by as many as 14 points in the second half, but Shepherd rallied to take its first lead of the game at 50-49 on a jumper by Wordlaw with 7:09 remaining. The Griffins had a three-point lead when Wordlaw drained a three-pointer with 3:54 left to knot the game at 57-57. Wordlaw hit a jumper with 2:46 remaining to give the Rams a 59-57 advantage, but Ortiz hit a layup for the Griffins with 2:39 left to force overtime. Shepherd outscored Seton Hill, 7-4, in overtime to grab the victory.

Shepherd connected on 37.3 percent (22-59) of its field goals with a 33.3 percent (7-21) performance from three-point range for the game. The Rams drained 78.9 percent (15-19) of their free throws.

Seton Hill shot 44.8 percent (26-58) from the floor with a 38.9 percent (7-18) effort from beyond the arc. The Griffins hit 57.1 percent (4-7) from the foul line.

Shepherd had a 40-34 rebounding advantage. The Rams forced 15 turnovers and committed 14.

The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Slippery Rock for a 5 p.m. game.
