SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Alyssa Gillin scored a game-high 22 points to lead Slippery Rock (4-4, 2-0) to a 76-72 win over Shepherd (2-5, 0-2) in PSAC women's basketball action at Slippery Rock on Tuesday.
Freshman forward Vilte Kacerauskaite (Waldorf, Md./Saint Mary's) led the Rams with a career-high 17 points. Kacerauskaite connected on 6-of-10 shots from the floor with a 3-of-6 effort from beyond the arc. She was 2-of-2 from the foul line. She added three rebounds and two assists.
Junior guard Kara Wehner (Staten Island, N.Y./Xaverian) added 16 points, four rebounds, and four assists, while sophomore forward Lamaria Estridge (Walkersville, Md./St. Andrew's Episcopal) posted 15 points and six rebounds. Sophomore guard Trinity Turner (Germantown, Md/Clarksburg) contributed a team-high eight boards.
Iyanna Wade added 14 points, 11 assists, seven boards, and four blocks for Slippery Rock.
The game featured 10 ties and six lead changes. Shepherd held its last lead of the game at 70-68 after a layup by junior forward Jenna Liska (Eldersburg, Md./ Liberty/Frostburg State) with 2:37 remaining. The Rock closed the game on an 8-2 run to secure the win.
Shepherd had a 43.9 percent (29-66) field goal percentage with a 33.3 percent (6-18) effort from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit 80 percent (8-10) from the foul line.
Slippery Rock connected on 43.1 percent (25-58) of its field goals with a 58.8 percent effort (10-17) from three-point range. The Rock hit 80 percent (16-20) of their free throws.
The Rams had a 38-34 advantage on the boards. Shepherd forced 13 turnovers and committed 12.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Edinboro for a 1 p.m. contest.
