Shepherd Men Downed by #17 Gannon

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Lucas Morgan scored a game-high 25 points to lead #17 Gannon (6-1, 1-0 PSAC) to a 91-79 win over Shepherd (3-4, 0-1 PSAC) in PSAC men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Saturday.

Junior guard Marcus Banks (Clinton, Md./Riverdale Baptist) scored a team-high 24 points to pace the Rams. He was 6-of-11 from the floor with a 12-of-15 effort from the foul line. He added eight boards, five assists, and a pair of steals.  

Sophomore guard Elwyne Wordlaw (Frederick, Md./Frederick) added 23 points with 12 coming from three-point range. Sophomore forward Favor Okigweh (Edgewood, Md./Parkville/The Winchedon School) tossed in 11 points and had eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Brody Davis (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) tied Gannon's Lucas Sekasi with a game-high nine rebounds.

Pace Prosser had 15 points and eight rebounds for the Golden Knights. Carter Wamsley was also in double figures with 12 points.   
 
Gannon had a 45-34 lead at the break.
 
Gannon led by as many as 16 points in the second half. Shepherd rallied to within four points at 76-72 after a pair of free throws by Banks with 4:09 left in the game, but Gannon closed on a 15-7 run to cap the win.

Shepherd connected on 42.2 percent (27-64) of its field goals with a 29.2 percent (7-24) performance from three-point range. The Rams drained 75 percent (18-24) of their free throws.

Gannon shot 41.9 percent (31-74) from the floor with a 20.8 percent (5-24) effort from beyond the arc. The Golden Knights hit 66.7 percent (24-36) from the foul line.

Gannon had a 45-43 edge in rebounds. The Rams forced six turnovers and committed 17.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Seton Hill for a 1 p.m. contest.
