Jalen Bryant
scored a game-high 19 points to lead Kutztown (8-18, 4-15 PSAC) to a 71-65 win over Shepherd University (16-10, 12-7 PSAC) in PSAC men's basketball action at Kutztown on Saturday.
Graduate student forward
Chase Paar (Mount Airy, Md./Glenelg Country School/Towson) led the Rams with 17 points. He connected on 8-of-13 field goals with a 1-of-2 effort from the foul line.
Senior forward
Carson Poffenberger (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) added 14 points and seven boards. Sophomore guard
Marcus Banks (Clinton, Md./Riverdale Baptist) had 10 points, a game-high seven assists, and six rebounds, while freshman guard
Brody Davis (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) tossed in 10 points. Senior guard
Jarod Robinson (Laurel, Md./Glenelg Country School) tied Poffenberger with a team-high seven rebounds.
Amir Cunningham added 14 points and six boards for the Golden Bears. Yahmir Satterfield had 11 points.
The game featured nine lead changes and eight ties.
Shepherd held a 65-63 lead after freshman guard
Elwyne Wordlaw (Frederick, Md./Frederick) drained a jumper with 32 seconds left in regulation. Kutztown closed the game on an 8-0 run to earn the win.
Shepherd connected on 52 percent (26-50) of its field goals with a 38.5 percent (5-13) performance from three-point range for the game. The Rams drained 66.7 percent (8-12) of their free throws.
Kutztown shot 38.2 percent (21-55) from the floor with a 24 percent (6-25) effort from beyond the arc. The Golden Bears hit 100 percent (23-23) from the foul line.
Shepherd had a 32-28 edge in rebounding. The Rams forced five turnovers and committed 12.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they host Shippensburg for Senior Night at 7:30 p.m.
