Shepherd Men Fall at West Chester

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Anthony Purnell Jr. scored a game-high 17 points to lead West Chester (18-4, 14-2 PSAC) to a 57-49 win over Shepherd University (14-8, 10-5 PSAC in PSAC men's basketball action at West Chester on Wednesday evening.

Senior guard Jarod Robinson (Laurel, Md./Glenelg Country School) led the Rams with 15 points. He was 3-of-8 from the floor with a 1-of-4 effort from beyond the arc. He was 8-of-10 from the line.

Graduate student forward Chase Paar (Mount Airy, Md./Glenelg Country School/Towson) added a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. He also added four blocked shots. Freshman guard Elwyne Wordlaw (Frederick, Md./Frederick) tossed in 11 points.

Sophomore guard Marcus Banks (Clinton, Md./Riverdale Baptist) contributed a game-high four steals, while sophomore forward Cole Paar (Mount Airy, Md./Glenelg Country School/Towson) had eight points and 10 boards.

Elijah Allen added eight points for the Golden Rams. Dylan Blair added seven points and 11 rebounds.
 
West Chester had a 21-16 advantage at halftime.

Shepherd connected on 29.8 percent (14-47) of its field goals with a 5 percent (1-20) performance from three-point range for the game. The Rams drained 66.7 percent (20-30) of their free throws.

West Chester shot 29.9 percent (20-67) from the floor with a 16.7 percent (3-18) effort from beyond the arc. The Golden Rams hit 93.3 percent (14-15) from the foul line.

Shepherd had a 43-42 advantage in rebounding. The Rams forced 13 turnovers and committed 22.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Bloomsburg for a 3 p.m. contest.
