Shepherd Men Top Bloomsburg

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Graduate student forward Chase Paar (Mount Airy, Md./Glenelg Country School/Towson) had 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead Shepherd University (15-8, 11-5 PSAC) to an 81-71 win over Bloomsburg (5-18, 4-12 PSAC) in PSAC men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Saturday.

Paar hit 9-of-11 shots from the floor with a 1-of-1 effort from the foul line. He added four assists and a pair of blocked shots.

Senior guard Jarod Robinson (Laurel, Md./Glenelg Country School) added 15 points and eight boards, while sophomore guard Marcus Banks (Clinton, Md./Riverdale Baptist) had 13 points and a game-high seven assists.

Senior forward Carson Poffenberger (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) had nine points and eight rebounds, while freshman guard Elwyne Wordlaw (Frederick, Md./Frederick) and sophomore forward Cole Paar (Mount Airy, Md./Glenelg Country School/Towson) each tossed in eight points.

Kent Olewiler had 22 points to pace the Huskies. Matt Bengel and Louie Wild each added 15 points.
 
The game was tied at 36-all at halftime.
 
The Rams built a 10-point lead early in the second half and saw it dwindle to three points at 64-61 after a three-pointer by Bengel with 5:28 left.  Shepherd closed the contest on a 17-10 run to grab the victory.

Shepherd connected on 50 percent (30-60) of its field goals with a 33.3 percent (8-24) performance from three-point range for the game. The Rams drained 86.7 percent (13-15) of their free throws.

Bloomsburg shot 43.6 percent (24-55) from the floor with a 37.5 percent (9-24) effort from beyond the arc. The Huskies hit 77.8 percent (14-18) from the foul line.

Shepherd had a 45-19 advantage in rebounding. The Rams forced four turnovers and committed 12.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Lock Haven for a 3 p.m. contest.
