Shepherd Baseball Takes Pair from Mansfield

MANSFIELD, Pa. – Shepherd University (14-12, 2-4 PSAC East) swept Mansfield (8-13, 2-4 PSAC East) in PSAC East doubleheader baseball action at Mansfield on Friday. The Rams posted a 6-0 win in game one and added a 6-4 victory in the nightcap.
 
Shepherd opened the scoring in the second inning of game one to take a 1-0 lead on a solo blast by redshirt sophomore outfielder Ethan Jones (Oakton, Va./Oakton).

Shepherd took a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning when sophomore outfielder Jake Fix (Westlake, Ohio/Ignatius) reached on a hit-by-pitch and later scored on a sacrifice fly by junior shortstop Ethan Burgreen (Winchester, Va./Millbrook).
 
The Rams added a run in the fifth when junior outfielder Bodie Pullen (Winchester, Va./James Wood) reached on an error and later scored on a double steal.

Shepherd added a pair of runs in the sixth. Senior third baseman Aidan Greaney (New Windsor, Md./South Carroll/Frederick Community College) singled and later scored on a single by Burgreen. Redshirt sophomore outfielder Ethan Jones (Oakton, Va./Oakton)  added a run when he scored on a double steal.
 
Shepherd added a run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly from sophomore designated hitter Thor Hildebrand (Glen Burnie, Md./North County).
 
Greaney and Jones each had a pair of hits for the Rams.
 
Redshirt sophomore pitcher Daniel Quintana (Haymarket, Va./ (Paul VI / James Madison) (6.0 IP, 4H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 K, 3 BB) (3-2) earned the win. Austin Lewis took the loss for Mansfield (6.0 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 4 K, 1 BB) (2-3).

Mansfield took a 2-0 lead in the first inning of the nightcap behind RBI-singles by Luke Raho and and Cole Serfass.

Shepherd scored a run in the second as Greaney led off with a double and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Burgreen.

Mansfield added two runs in the fourth to take a 4-1 lead on RBI-singles from Ryan Sekulski and Shane Stossel.

The Rams plated four runs in the sixth to take a 5-4 lead. Hildebrand had an RBI-single and Jones belted a three-run homer to highlight the scoring.

Shepherd added a run in the seventh when redshirt-senior infielder Wyatt Miles (Waterford, Va./Woodgrove/Frederick CC) singled and later scored off an error.  
 
Miles went 3-for-4 to lead the Rams.
 
Redshirt senior pitcher Brenden Lewis (Hurricane, W.Va./Hurricane) (1.1 IP, 1H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 K, 0 BB) (1-0) gained the win. Senior pitcher Eli Lam (Elkton, Va./Spotswood/Patrick Henry Community College) (1.2 IP, 1H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 K, 0 BB) got the save. (1). Tyler Swineford took the loss for Mansfield (6.0 IP, 5 H, 5 ER, 5 K, 2 BB) (4-4).                  

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Mansfield for a 1 pm doubleheader at Fairfax Field.
