MANSFIELD, Pa. – Shepherd University (21-16-1, 17-8-1 PSAC East) pounded out 30 hits on the day en route to a sweep of Mansfield (14-22, 8-18 PSAC East) in PSAC East softball doubleheader action at Mansfield on Saturday. Shepherd recorded a 17-5 win in game one and added a 13-3 triumph in the nightcap.
Shepherd took a 1-0 lead in the first inning in game one as sophomore outfielder
Madelyn Chambers (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) led off with a double and later scored on a single by senior third baseman
Lauren Moore (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora/Trevecca Nazarene).
After Mansfield took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first, the Rams added five runs in the fourth to take a 6-3 lead. Sophomore second baseman
Cate Russian (Manassas, Va./Colgan) and Clatterbuck had two-run singles to key the rally.
The Rams added three runs in the fifth with a two-run double by Moore keying the rally.
A two-run double by Blackstone in the sixth cut the lead to 10-5.
Shepherd added seven runs on six hits in the seventh to close out the scoring.
Moore went 3-for-5, while Chambers, Clatterbuck, and Russian each added two hits.
Sophomore pitcher
Trynda Mantz (Edinburg, Va./Central) (4.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 6 K, 0 BB) (2-1) got the win. Annabelle Putnam (4.1 IP, 8 H, 9 R, 5 ER, 4 K, 3 BB) (5-14) took the loss.

Mansfield scored three in the third with a two-run homer by Caydence Macik keying the rally.
The Rams plated seven runs in the fourth to take an 8-3 advantage. A solo homer by Collis and a two-run single by Moore keyed the rally.
After adding a run in the fifth, Shepherd plated four runs on six hits in the seventh with a two-run homer by freshman outfielder
Haylee Hartman (Keedysville, Md./Boonsboro) highlighting the scoring.
Moore went 4-for-4 and drove in three runs to pace the Rams.
Freshman pitcher
Sam Colaw (Petersburg, W.Va./Petersburg) (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 K, 0 BB) (4-10) earned the victory. Sophomore pitcher
Madelayne Ruffner (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington (4.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 9 K, 1 BB) gained the save (2). Reilly Storer (3.0 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 1 K, 0 BB) (2-8) took the loss.
The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Kutztown for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
