Shepherd Women’s Lacrosse Edged by Shippensburg; King Surpasses 100-Goal Mark

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Senior attacker Kelsey King (Fallston, Md./Concordia Prep) scored a game-high seven goals for Shepherd (4-6, 1-5 PSAC East), but Shippensburg (6-5, 1-5 PSAC East) rallied for a 13-12 win in PSAC East women's lacrosse action at Ram Stadium on Wednesday. King surpassed the 100-goal mark and now has 103 for her career.

Senior attacker Katie Paredes (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) added three goals and four assists.

Sophomore midfielder Aubrey Harrison (Fairmont, W.Va./Fairmont Senior) and freshman midfielder Katherine Stevenson (Middletown, Md./Middletown) each tallied a goal, while freshman midfielder Grace Lyon (Port Tobacco, Md./McDonough) added a pair of assists. Harrison added five draw controls, five ground balls, and three caused turnovers.

Brynn Hauck and Ali Pioli lead the Raiders with three goals each. Shannon Wood, Sara Vosburg, and Maddie Phommachanh each added a pair of goals.

Shippensburg had a 7-5 lead at the break as Pioli and Hauck each had a pair of first-half goals.

Shepherd outscored Shippensburg, 7-3, in the third quarter to take a 12-10 lead going into the final stanza. King tallied four goals and Paredes netted three to fuel the rally.

The Raiders got fourth-quarter goals from Phommachanh and Shannon Wood to tie the game at 12-all. Pioli scored the game-winner with 5:29 left.

Junior goalkeeper Destiny Rockwell (Glengary, W.Va./Musselman) recorded 10 saves for the Rams. Kayla Vosburg posted 10 saves for the Raiders.

Shepherd had a 31-29 advantage in shots while Shippensburg held a 23-22 edge in shots on goal. Shepherd was 9-of-14 in clears and Shippensburg was 16-of-19. Shepherd had a 20-15 edge in ground balls and a 15-14 advantage in draw controls.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to East Stroudsburg for a noon contest.
