SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University (22-20-1, 18-12-1 PSAC East) swept Millersville (22-29, 6-25 PSAC East) in PSAC East softball doubleheader action at Sara Cree Field on Saturday. The Rams recorded a 2-1 win in game one and added a 7-3 victory in the nightcap.
Millersville took a 1-0 lead in the second in game one on a solo homer by Jiana Maniscalco.
Shepherd tied the game in the bottom of the second as junior catcher
Camdyn Noland (Summit Point, W.Va./Washington) walked and later scored on a single by sophomore first baseman
Brenna Collis (Hedgesville, W.Va./Hedgesville).
Shepherd won the game in the seventh as Noland reached on a two-out double and sophomore pitcher
Madelayne Ruffner (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) followed with a single to plate Noland.
Sophomore catcher
Madelyn Chambers (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point), Noland, and Ruffner each had a pair of hits for the Rams.
Ruffner (7.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 13 K, 1 BB) (16-3) picked up the win. Delaney Troxell (4.1 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 3 K, 1 BB) (7-11) took the loss.
Shepherd took a 4-0 lead in the first in the nightcap behind a two-run single by Noland and a two-run double by freshman outfielder
Haylee Hartman (Keedysville, Md./Boonsboro).
The Rams added a run in the third on a solo blast by Collis.
The Marauders got a two-run single by Carly Vaughan in the fourth to cut the lead to 5-2.
Hartman belted a homer in the bottom of the fourth to up the advantage to 6-2.
Maniscalco had an RBI-double in the 6th to cut the lead to 6-3.
Shepherd completed the scoring in the bottom of the sixth when Hartman singled and later scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Chambers.
Hartman went 3-for-3 to pace the Rams in the nightcap.
Jocelyn Langer went 2-for-3 to lead the Marauders.
Freshman pitcher
Sam Colaw (Petersburg, W.Va./Petersburg) (5.1 IP, 9 H, 3 ER, 4 K, 3 BB) (5-12) gained the win. Mollie White (4.0 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 2 K, 0 BB) (4-7) took the loss.
The Rams await word on pairings for the upcoming PSAC Softball Championship.
