KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Shepherd University (28-24-1) dropped a 1-0 decision to Charleston (37-16) in NCAA II Atlantic Regional action at Kutztown on Saturday.
Charleston scored the game's only run in the third inning when Allison Rubal led off with a double and scored on a double by Lindsey Phares.
The Rams got a two-out double from senior shortstop
Lexi Clatterbuck (Front Royal, Va./Skyline) in the seventh, but were unable to produce a run.
Sophomore outfielder
Madelyn Chambers (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) went 2-for 3 to lead the Rams.
Brittny Ogg went 2-for-3 to pace the Golden Eagles.
Addison Mass (7.0 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 10 K, 0 BB) (27-6) gained the win. Sophomore pitcher
Madelayne Ruffner (6.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 8 K, 2 BB) (20-5) took the loss.
Charleston advances to face Kutztown in an elimination game later today.
