Shepherd Baseball Sweeps Bloomsburg

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Shepherd University (25-25, 12-16 PSAC East) swept Bloomsburg (21-28, 10-18 PSAC East) in PSAC East doubleheader baseball action at Bloomsburg on Friday. Shepherd earned an 11-6 win in game one and added an 11-7 victory in the nightcap.
 
Shepherd took a 2-0 lead in the first inning of game one on a two-run blast from senior first baseman Aidan Greaney (New Windsor, Md./South Carroll /Frederick Community College).

The Rams took a 4-0 lead in the fourth on a two-run shot by redshirt sophomore outfielder Ethan Jones (Oakton, Va./Oakton).

The Huskies added a run in the fourth on a solo homer from Corey Daniels.

Shepherd took advantage of four errors in the fifth to plate four runs to take an 8-1 lead. Greaney and Jones had RBI-doubles to key the rally.

Bloomsburg scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead to 8-5 with a solo homer by Josh Wilson keying the rally.

The Rams plated three runs on two hits in the seventh to take an 11-5 lead.

The Huskies added a run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly from Daniels. 

Greaney and Jones each had three hits to lead the Rams. 

Sophomore pitcher Michael Burnley (Sicklerville, N.J./St. Augustine Prep) (4.1 IP, 5 H, 5 ER, 1 K, 1 BB) (3-5) earned the win. Brandon Wozniak (5.0 IP, 7 H, 8 R, 5 ER, 6 K, 1 BB) (3-3) took the loss. 

Shepherd took a 1-0 lead in the first inning in the nightcap on an RBI-double from Greaney.

Mike Miller had a two-run double in the bottom of the first to give the Huskies a 2-1 lead.
 
Bloomsburg added three runs in the second to take a 5-1 lead with Greg Cristino and Daniels each contributing RBI-singles.
 
Greaney singled and later scored on a ground out by redshirt sophomore shortstop Ethan Burgreen (Winchester, Va./Millbrook) in the third.
 
The Rams cut the lead to 5-3 in the fourth when sophomore catcher Levi Loughry (Hanover, Pa./South Western) led off with a double and scored on a single by redshirt sophomore outfielder Bodie Pullen (Winchester, Va./James Wood).
 
Shepherd scored four runs on four hits in the fifth highlighted by an RBI-double from Pullen to take a 7-5 lead.
 
Junior first baseman Nik Rubendall (East Norriton, Pa./Pope John Paul II) hit a two-run single in the sixth to up the lead to 9-5.     

Bloomsburg added two runs in the sixth before Shepherd closed out the scoring on a two-run blast off the bat of redshirt senior infielder Wyatt Miles (Waterford, Va./Woodgrove/Frederick CC).
 
Burgreen went 3-for-4 to lead a 15-hit attack for the Rams.

Graduate student pitcher Aidan Vanvickle (Fredericksburg, Va./Riverbend) (4.0 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 5 K, 2 BB) (1-3) earned the win. Riley Powers (1.2 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 3K, 1 BB) (4-3) took the loss.
