WASHINGTON, D.C. – Shepherd University (0-1-0) dropped a 2-1 decision to University of the District of Columbia (1-0-0) in men's soccer action at UDC on Thursday evening in the season opener for both schools.
Ignacio Lopez scored on a penalty kick at the 15:05 mark to give UDC a 1-0 advantage.
Shepherd tied the game at the 16:39 mark on an unassisted tally by senior
Justin Langon (Upper Marlboro, Md./Bishop McNamara).
Alexander Stuart scored the game-winner for the Firebirds on an assist from Ignacio Lopez at the 54:09 mark.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Aidan Houck (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) posted four saves for the Rams. Sergio Berrara recorded six saves for the Firebirds.
Shepherd had a 16-10 advantage in shots and a 7-6 edge in shots on goal. Corner kicks were even at four each.
The Rams return to action on Sunday when they travel to Felician for a noon match.
