Shepherd Men Fall to East Stroudsburg in Final Seconds

EAST STROUDSBURGPa. – Keni Williams hit a layup with three seconds remaining to lift East Stroudsburg to a 74-72 win over Shepherd (8-5, 5-2 PSAC) in PSAC East men's basketball action at East Stroudsburg on Saturday.

Junior guard Marcus Banks (Clinton, Md./Riverdale Baptist) led the Rams with 18 points. Banks connected on 5-of-9 field goals with a 2-of-4 effort from three-point range.  He was 6-of-9 from the foul line. Banks added six assists, five boards, two steals, and a blocked shot.

Sophomore forward Daouda Traore (Silver Spring, Md./Clinton Grace Christian/St. Thomas Aquinas)  had 16 points, while sophomore guard Brody Davis (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) added 14 points and six boards. Sophomore forward Favor Okigweh (Edgewood, Md./Parkville/The Winchedon School) had 11 points and tied East Stroudsburg's Adrian Brito with a game-high eight rebounds.

Brito had 15 points to lead the Warriors. Ethan Maynard and Williams each had 12, while Saleem Payne and Carson Howard each had 10.

East Stroudsburg had a 38-30 advantage at the break.
 
There were eight lead changes and six ties in the contest. Shepherd tied the game at 72-72 with nine seconds left on a pair of free throws by Banks.

Shepherd connected on 51.9 percent (28-54) of its field goals with a 36.8 percent (7-19) performance from three-point range for the game. The Rams drained 56.3 percent (9-16) of their free throws.
 
East Stroudsburg shot 42.6 percent (29-68) from the floor with a 30.4 percent (7-23) effort from beyond the arc. The Warriors hit 81.8 percent (9-11) from the foul line.

East Stroudsburg had a 37-32 rebounding edge. The Rams forced 11 turnovers and committed 12.

The Rams return to action on Thursday when they travel to Millersville for a  7:30 p.m. contest.
