Shepherd Women Edged by East Stroudsburg

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Brie Droege scored a game-high 26 points to lead East Stroudsburg (9-5, 4-3) to a 74-67 win over Shepherd (2-10, 0-7) in PSAC East women's basketball action at East Stroudsburg on Saturday. 

Junior guard Grace Middleton (Leesburg, Va./Tuscarora/Frostburg State) led the Rams with 15 points. Middleton connected on 6-of-9 shots from the floor with a 1-of-2 effort from beyond the arc. She was 2-of-3 from the foul line. Middleton added three rebounds. 

Junior guard Cassidy Rhodes (Point of Rocks, Md./Brunswick) added 14 points and grabbed four boards. Freshman forward Summer Shackelford (Amissville, Va./Highland School) tossed in 10 points. 

Sophomore forward Lamaria Estridge (Walkersville, Md./St. Andrew's Episcopal) and junior forward Jenna Liska (Eldersburg, Md. Liberty/Frostburg State) each contributed eight points and five rebounds. 

Brooke Droege added 15 points for the Warriors. Caitlin Marten had nine points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

The game featured five lead changes and three ties. Shepherd rallied from a 13-point fourth quarter deficit

to get to within four points at 70-66 after a layup by Shackelford with 45 seconds remaining. The Warriors closed the game on a 4-1 run to seal the win.

Shepherd connected on 42.9 percent (27-63) of its field goals with a 30 percent effort (6-20) from three-point range. The Rams hit 53.8 percent (7-13) of their free throws.

East Stroudsburg had a 44.6 percent (29-65) field goal percentage with a 28.6 percent (4-14) effort from beyond the arc for the game. The Warriors hit 80 percent (12-15) from the foul line. 

East Stroudsburg had a 42-34 advantage on the boards. The Rams forced 21 turnovers and committed 22.

The Rams return to action on Thursday when they travel to Millersville for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
