Shepherd Women Knock Off Mansfield

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. –  Sophomore forward Lamaria Estridge (Walkersville, Md./St. Andrew's Episcopal)  and junior guard Cassidy Rhodes (Point of Rocks, Md./Brunswick) each scored 16 points to lead Shepherd (3-11, 1-8) to an 80-62 victory over Mansfield (2-15, 0-10) in PSAC East women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Saturday. 

Estridge connected on 6-of-16 shots from the floor with a 2-of-4 effort from beyond the arc. She was 2-of-2 from the foul line. Estridge added six rebounds. three steals,  and a pair of assists. Rhodes connected on 6-of-11 shots from the floor with a 3-of-6 effort from beyond the arc. She was 1-of-2 from the foul line. Rhodes added a pair of rebounds and two assists. 

Junior forward Jenna Liska (Eldersburg, Md. Liberty Frostburg State) had 10 points and tied Mansfield's Katie Sheeler with a game-high nine rebounds. She added two assists and two blocks. Junior guard Kara Wehner (Staten Island, N.Y./Xaverian) tossed in 10 points and grabbed three boards. Junior guard Grace Middleton (Leesburg, Va. Tuscarora/Frostburg State) contributed nine points and four rebounds. 

Delilah Nazih added a game-high 23 points and five rebounds for the Mountaineers. Jenna Burkett had 15 points and six rebounds, while Sheeler had 13 points.

The Rams took a 27-14 lead in the first quarter and never trailed in the game.

Shepherd connected on 42.2 percent (27-64) of its field goals with a 45.5 percent effort (10-22) from three-point range. The Rams hit 84.2 percent (16-19) of their free throws.

Mansfield had a 34.4 percent (22-64) field goal percentage with a 20 percent (5-25) effort from beyond the arc for the game. The Mountaineers hit 81.3 percent (13-16) from the foul line. 

Mansfield had a 44-38 advantage on the boards. The Rams forced 22 turnovers and committed 16.

The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they travel to West Chester for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
