Shepherd Men Downed by West Chester

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Ruben Rodriguez scored 19 points and added eight assists to lead West Chester (13-4, 7-3 PSAC East) to an 80-73 win over Shepherd (9-8, 5-5 PSAC East) in PSAC East men's basketball action at West Chester on Wednesday night.

Sophomore guard Elwyne Wordlaw (Frederick, Md./Frederick) scored a career-high 26 points to pace the Rams. He connected on 11-of-18 field goals with a 4-of-8 effort from three-point range. He added three steals. He has scored 20 points or more in seven games this season.

Junior guard Marcus Banks (Clinton, Md./Riverdale Baptist) added 17 points, seven rebounds, and two assists.

Dylan Blair and Anthony Williams each added 13 points for the Golden Rams. Blair also added nine assists.
 
West Chester had a 40-36 lead at halftime as Jaysean Williams and McCall (nine points each) combined for 18 first-half points.
 
The game featured 10 lead changes and a pair of ties.
 
Shepherd trailed by just two points at 61-59 after a layup by Banks with 8:13 left in regulation. The Golden Rams proceeded on a 10-2 run to open up a 10-point lead at 71-61 and take control of the contest.

Shepherd connected on 60 percent (30-50) of its field goals with a 41.2 percent (7-17) performance from three-point range for the game. The Rams drained 40 percent (6-15) of their free throws.
 
West Chester shot 50.9 percent (28-55) from the floor with a 41.2 percent (7-17) effort from beyond the arc. The Golden Rams hit 85 percent (17-20) from the foul line.

Shepherd had a 27-25 rebounding advantage. The Rams forced 13 turnovers and committed 19.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Kutztown for a 3 p.m. contest.
