Pa. – Sophomore guard
Elwyne Wordlaw (Frederick, Md./Frederick) scored 22 points to lead Shepherd (11-8, 7-5 PSAC East) to a 65-54 win over Bloomsburg (5-14, 2-10 PSAC East) in PSAC East men's basketball action at Bloomsburg on Thursday night.
Wordlaw connected on 9-of-16 field goals with a 4-of-5 effort from three-point range. He added a game-high three steals.
Freshman guard
Colby White (Buckingham, Va./Blue Ridge) had 12 points and five boards, while sophomore forward
Favor Okigweh (Edgewood, Md./Parkville/The Winchedon School) added nine points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore guard
Brody Davis (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) contributed nine points and five boards.
Sophomore forward
Daouda Traore (Silver Spring, Md./Clinton Grace Christian/St. Thomas Aquinas) added six points and six rebounds.
Ries Naugle led the Huskies with a game-high 24 points. Chase Smucker added 12 points and four boards.
Wordlaw's 14 first-half points helped Shepherd take a 35-32 advantage into the break.
Bloomsburg rallied late in the second half to get to within two points at 52-50 with 6:30 remaining after a three-pointer by Kodi Johnson. The Rams closed the game on a 13-4 run to seal the victory.
Shepherd connected on 45.5 percent (25-55) of its field goals with a 50 percent (9-18) performance from three-point range for the game. The Rams drained 50 percent (6-12) of their free throws.
Bloomsburg shot 37.3 percent (19-51) from the floor with a 37.5 percent (9-24) effort from beyond the arc. The Huskies hit 77.8 percent (7-9) from the foul line.
Shepherd had a 39-27 rebounding edge. The Rams forced nine turnovers and committed 10.
The Rams are slated to return to action on Saturday when they travel to Lock Haven for a 3 p.m. contest
