BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Junior guard Kara Wehner (Staten Island, N.Y./Xaverian) scored a game-high 15 points to lead Shepherd (5-12, 3-9) to a 56-51 victory over Bloomsburg (10-9, 6-6 ) in PSAC East women's basketball action at Bloomsburg on Thursday.
Wehner connected on 6-of-10 shots from the floor with a 3-of-6 effort from beyond the arc. Wehner added four assists and two rebounds.
Junior guard Cassidy Rhodes (Point of Rocks, Md./Brunswick) added 11 points, two steals, and two assists. Sophomore forward Lamaria Estridge (Walkersville, Md./St. Andrew's Episcopal) had nine points, seven rebounds, and five steals. Sophomore guard Trinity Turner (Germantown, Md./Clarksburg) contributed seven points and four boards.
Kelly Leszcynski added a team-high 10 points for the Huskies. Alexis Ferguson had eight points and five rebounds, while Maynard Maddison contributed six points and seven boards.
Shepherd took the lead for good at 5-4 when Wehner drained a three-pointer with 7:45 left in the first quarter. The Rams led by as many as nine points in the second half.
Shepherd connected on 39.6 percent (21-53) of its field goals with a 47.1 percent effort (8-17) from three-point range. The Rams hit 75 percent (6-8) of their free throws.
Bloomsburg had a 37.9 percent (22-58) field goal percentage with a 10.5 percent (2-9) effort from beyond the arc for the game. The Huskies hit 50 percent (5-10) from the foul line.
Bloomsburg had a 38-34 advantage on the boards. The Rams forced 22 turnovers and committed 23.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Lock Haven for a 1 p.m. contest.
