JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – Sophomore guard
Brody Davis (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) tied a career-high effort with 19 points to lead Shepherd (7-5, 4-2 PSAC) to a 66-62 win over Pitt-Johnstown (9-5, 3-3 PSAC) in PSAC men's basketball action at UPJ on Saturday.
Davis connected on 7-of-10 field goals with a 5-of-7 effort from three-point range.
Junior guard
Marcus Banks (Clinton, Md./Riverdale Baptist) added 15 points and a game-high nine assists. Sophomore guard
Elwyne Wordlaw (Frederick, Md./Frederick) added 13 points and three assists, while sophomore forward
Favor Okigweh (Edgewood, Md./Parkville/The Winchedon School) added eight points and nine boards.
Baden Forup had 28 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Mountain Cats. Jay Rose added 16 points and Adam Bilinsky had 10 points and five assists.
Shepherd had a 38-30 advantage at halftime.
Shepherd took the lead for good at 61-58 on a three-pointer by Wordlaw with 1:51 left in regulation. The Rams closed the game on a 5-4 run to cap the victory.
Shepherd connected on 36 percent (25-55) of its field goals with a 40 percent (8-19) performance from three-point range for the game. The Rams drained 60 percent (8-14) of their free throws.
Pitt-Johnstown shot 41.3 percent (26-63) from the floor with a 7.7 percent (1-13) effort from beyond the arc. The Mountain Cats hit 81.8 percent (9-11) from the foul line.
UPJ had a 43-28 rebounding edge. The Rams forced 12 turnovers and committed eight.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they host Lock Haven for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
