Shepherd Football Downs Millersville

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Graduate student quarterback Michael Hardyway (Winchester, Cal./Oceanside/Bucknell) completed 19-of-31 passes for 220 yards and three touchdowns to lead Shepherd University (4-1, 1-1 PSAC East) to a 35-7 win over Millersville (0-4, 0-3 PSAC East) in PSAC East football action at Ram Stadium on Saturday.

Hardyway teamed with sophomore wide receiver Derrell Pierson (Baltimore, Md. / Milford Mill Academy) on a 62-yard scoring strike with 12:54 left in the first quarter to give the Rams a 7-0 lead.

Hardyway fired a 16-yard scoring toss to freshman wide receiver Nyion Mason (North Dinwiddie, Va./Dinwiddie) with 29 seconds left in the half to give the Rams a 14-0 advantage at the break. 
     
Calleb Howse fired a 43-yard option pass to Kyreek Bradshaw for the Marauders with 3:00 left in the third quarter to cut the lead to 14-7.

Shepherd answered back when redshirt freshman running back Ian Mauldin (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) raced 53 yards for a score with 2:12 left in the third quarter to push the lead to 21-7.   
       
The Rams added a pair of fourth-quarter scores as Hardyway had an 11-yard scoring toss to senior wide receiver  Daryl Harper (Frederick, Md./Northwest) with 8:01 left before junior quarterback  Jackson Sigler (Stafford, Va./Mountain View/Virginia Tech) added a 36-yard scoring jaunt with 1:05 remaining.

Ryan Zeltt connected on 11-of-18 passes for 91 yards for the Marauders.

Pierson had four catches for 78 yards to lead the Shepherd receivers. Isaac Sines had six receptions for 50 yards for Millersville.

Mauldin had 10 carries for 96 yards to lead the Rams. Makhi Ashby had 15 carries for 65 yards to pace the Marauders.

Shepherd had 410 yards of total offense while limiting Millersville to 224 total yards.

The Shepherd defense was led by sophomore defensive back D'Myo Hunter (Culpeper, Va./Blue Ridge School) and sophomore defensive back Tyrin Chinn-Thompson (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck). Hunter had seven tackles and a pair of pass breakups, while Chinn-Thompson added six stops and a sack (-8 yards). Bryce Beutler led Millersville with seven tackles (two solos) and a pass breakup.   
 
Junior defensive back Reggie Snowden (Frederick, Md./Frederick) led the secondary with a pair of interceptions.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to West Chester for a 6 p.m. contest.
