Balanced Attack Leads Shepherd Men Past Mansfield

MANSFIELD, Pa.  Sophomore guard Elwyne Wordlaw (Frederick, Md./Frederick) scored 18 points to lead five players in double figures as Shepherd (16-8, 12-5 PSAC East) recorded an 86-72 win over Mansfield (2-22, 1-17 PSAC East) in PSAC East men's basketball action at Mansfield on Saturday. Shepherd earned its seventh straight victory.

Wordlaw connected on 6-of-12 field goals with a 2-of-6 effort from three-point range. He was 4-of-4 from the foul line.

Sophomore forward Daouda Traore (Silver Spring, Md./Clinton Grace Christian/St. Thomas Aquinas) added 17 points and seven rebounds, while sophomore guard Brody Davis (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) had 15 points and seven boards. Sophomore forward Favor Okigweh (Edgewood, Md./Parkville/The Winchedon School) added 14 points and 12 rebounds to post his sixth double-double of the season. Freshman guard Colby White (Buckingham, Va./Blue Ridge) also added 14 points.

Sterling Scott had 18 points and nine rebounds to pace the Mountaineers. Julian Wilson added 13 points, while Joshua Franklin had 11 points and five boards.
 
Shepherd had a 45-29 lead at halftime as White (10), Okigweh (10), Wordlaw (9), and Traore (9) teamed up for 38 first-half points.

Mansfield rallied to within eight points at 80-72 after Wilson hit a layup with 1:34 left in regulation. Shepherd closed the game on a 6-0 run to seal the victory.
 
Shepherd connected on 49.2 percent (32-65) of its field goals with a 38.1 percent (8-21) performance from three-point range for the game. The Rams drained 60.9 percent (14-23) of their free throws.
 
Mansfield shot 43.5 percent (30-69) from the floor with a 29.6 percent (8-27) effort from beyond the arc. The Mountaineers hit 33.3 percent (4-12) from the foul line.
 
Shepherd had a 44-39 rebounding edge. The Rams forced six turnovers and committed seven.

The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they host West Chester for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
