Ruben Rodriguez scored 21 points and Anthony McCall added 20 to lead West Chester (19-6, 13-5 PSAC East) to an 80-74 win over Shepherd (16-9, 12-6 PSAC East) in PSAC East men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Wednesday. The loss snapped a seven-game win streak for the Rams.
Sophomore guard
Elwyne Wordlaw (Frederick, Md./Frederick) scored a career-high 32 points to pace the Rams. Wordlaw connected on 11-of-20 field goals with a 3-of-9 effort from three-point range. He was 7-of-8 from the foul line.
Junior guard
Marcus Banks (Clinton, Md./Riverdale Baptist) tied a career-high effort with 26 points. He was 8-of-15 from the floor with a 1-of-3 effort from three-point range. Banks was 9-of-11 from the foul line. He added six rebounds and a pair of assists.
Gabe Moss added 17 points and a game-high 11 rebounds for the Golden Rams. Joe Sedora tossed in 10 points.
Shepherd connected on 51.1 percent (24-47) of its field goals with a 27.8 percent (5-18) performance from three-point range for the game. The Rams drained 77.8 percent (21-27) of their free throws.
West Chester shot 48.3 percent (29-60) from the floor with a 23.1 percent (3-13) effort from beyond the arc. The Golden Rams hit 76 percent (19-25) from the foul line.
The Golden Rams had a 39-23 rebounding edge. The Rams forced eight turnovers and committed eight.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Kutztown for a 3 p.m. contest.
