Shepherd Women Top Mansfield for Fourth Straight Win

MANSFIELD, Pa. – Junior guard Kara Wehner (Staten Island, N.Y./Xaverian) scored a career-high 29 points to lead Shepherd University (9-13, 7-10 PSAC East) to a 76-62 win over Mansfield (3-22, 1-17 PSAC East) in PSAC East women's basketball action at Mansfield on Saturday. The Rams recorded their fourth consecutive victory.
 
Wehner was 9-of-14 from the floor with a 5-of-9 effort from three-point range. She connected on 6-of-6 free throws. Wehner added eight rebounds, three assists, and one steal.
 
Sophomore forward Lamaria Estridge (Walkersville, Md./St. Andrew's Episcopal) had 20 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, and a steal. Estridge's double-double was her fourth of the season. Sophomore guard Trinity Turner (Germantown, Md./Clarksburg) added 16 points, five rebounds, and three assists.       
  
Kate Sheeler scored 26 points to pace the Mountaineers. Jenna Burkett added 10 points and nine rebounds, while Amiyah Nguyen also tossed in 10 points.
 
After trailing 19-18 at the end of the first quarter, Shepherd outscored Mansfield, 24-9, in the second quarter to take a 42-28 lead into the break.
 
The Mountaineers rallied within seven points at 63-56 after a three-pointer by Sheeler with 6:12 left in regulation. Shepherd closed the game on a 13-6 run to cap the victory.

Shepherd had a 42.4 percent (28-66) field goal percentage with a 30.4 percent (7-23) effort from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit 76.5 percent (13-17) from the foul line. 
 
Mansfield connected on 37.5 percent (21-56) of its field goals with a 27.8 percent effort (5-18) from three-point range. The Mountaineers hit 75  percent (15-20) of their free throws.
 
Mansfield had a 41-37 rebounding advantage. Shepherd forced 21 turnovers and committed 14.  
 
The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they host West Chester for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
