NUTTER FORT, W.Va. – Shepherd University (7-3) recorded an 8-7 win over Glenville State (6-3) in baseball action at Frank Loria Memorial Field on Friday.
Glenville State took a 3-0 lead in the second inning with RBI-singles from Adam Bright and Jacob Meadow keying the rally for the Pioneers.
After Meadow had an RBI-single in the top of the fifth, Shepherd rallied with six runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 6-4 advantage. Redshirt sophomore infielder Ryan Fluharty (Burton, W.Va./Morgantown/USC Upstate) hit a two-run double to key the scoring outburst.
Austin Carte hit a two-run homer for the Pioneers in the seventh to tie the game at 6-all.
Shepherd took a 7-6 lead in the seventh as redshirt junior outfielder Bodie Pullen (Winchester, Va./James Wood) walked and later scored on a single off the bat of redshirt junior shortstop Ethan Burgreen (Winchester, Va./Millbrook).
Jetsel Cajig reached on a single and later scored on a wild pitch in the eighth to tie the game.
Burgreen scored the game-winner in the bottom of the ninth. He reached on an error, moved to third on a pair of walks, and stole home to give the Rams the victory.
Redshirt junior pitcher Jesse Specter (Woolwich Township, N.J./Moorestown/West Chester) (1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 K, 0 BB) (1-0) gained the win for the Rams. Gabe Patton (1.1 IP, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 K, 0 BB) (0-1) took the loss.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they face Fairmont State at 11 a.m. in Morgantown.
