Shepherd Men Handle Bloomsburg

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore guard Elwyne Wordlaw (Frederick, Md./Frederick) scored a game-high 18 points to lead Shepherd (19-9, 16-6) to an 87-44 win over Bloomsburg (7-21, 4-18) in PSAC East men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Senior Day on Saturday.

Wordlaw hit on 6-of-10 field goals with a 3-of-5 effort from three-point range. He was 3-of-3 from the foul line.

Junior guard Marcus Banks (Clinton, Md./Riverdale Baptist)  added 14 points, six rebounds, and six assists, while sophomore forward Daouda Traore (Silver Spring, Md./Clinton Grace Christian/St. Thomas Aquinas) also tossed in 14 points.

Freshman guard Colby White (Buckingham, Va./Blue Ridge) had 13 points and six boards, while sophomore guard Brody Davis (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) had 11 points and six rebounds. Sophomore forward Favor Okigweh (Edgewood, Md./Parkville/The Winchedon School) contributed seven points and a game-high nine rebounds, while junior forward Colton Hartman (St. Thomas, Pa./St. Maria Goretti) had a career-high eight boards.

Naeem Purnell-Northern had 10 points for the Huskies. Gabe Springer and Ries Naugle each tossed in eight points.

Shepherd had a 46-29 advantage at halftime.
 
Shepherd connected on 54.1 percent (33-61) of its field goals with a 44.4 percent (12-27) performance from three-point range for the game. The Rams drained 64.3 percent (9-14) of their free throws.
 
Bloomsburg shot 27.4 percent (17-62) from the floor with a 21.4 percent (6-18) effort from beyond the arc. The Huskies hit 57.1 percent (4-7) from the foul line.
 
Shepherd had a 51-26 rebounding advantage. The Rams forced nine turnovers and committed nine.

The third-seeded Rams return to action on Monday when they host sixth-seeded Lock Haven at the Butcher Center for a 7 p.m. contest in PSAC Tournament action.

Notes: The Rams honored senior guard Asher Rudolph in a pregame ceremony for Senior Day.
