SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Junior guard
Marcus Banks (Clinton, Md./Riverdale Baptist) scored 22 points to lead Shepherd (20-9) to an 84-80 win over Lock Haven (10-19) in first round action of the PSAC Men's Basketball Tournament at the Butcher Center on Monday night.
Banks hit 9-of-14 field goals with a 4-of-6 effort from the foul line. He added eight assists and five rebounds.
Freshman guard
Colby White (Buckingham, Va./Blue Ridge) had 17 points and six boards, while sophomore forward
Favor Okigweh (Edgewood, Md./Parkville/The Winchedon School) had 15 points and 14 rebounds to record his eighth double-double of the season.
Sophomore guard
Brody Davis (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) had 13 points and six rebounds, while sophomore forward
Daouda Traore (Silver Spring, Md./Clinton Grace Christian/St. Thomas Aquinas) had 10 points and six boards.
Keith Warren led the Bald Eagles with 28 points. Dyllon Scott added 17 points, while Blake Deegan had nine points and nine rebounds.
Shepherd shot 55.6 percent (20-36) in the first half to take a 45-30 advantage at the break.
The Rams led by as many as 21 points in the second half but saw their lead dwindle to two points at 82-80 after a jumper by Deegan with 51 seconds left in regulation. Banks drained a pair of free throws with 18 seconds left to secure the win.
Shepherd connected on 55.7 percent (34-61) of its field goals with a 42.9 percent (9-21) performance from three-point range for the game. The Rams drained 58.3 percent (7-12) of their free throws.
Lock Haven shot 49.1 percent (32-65) from the floor with a 43.8 percent (14-32) effort from beyond the arc. The Bald Eagles hit 100 percent (2-2) from the foul line.
Shepherd had a 38-25 rebounding advantage. The Rams forced eight turnovers and committed 12.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they travel to face California (Pa.) in quarterfinal tournament action. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m.
