SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore guard
Elwyne Wordlaw (Frederick, Md./Frederick) scored nine of his career-high 28 points in the second overtime period to lead Shepherd (14-8, 10-5 PSAC East) to a 100-95 double overtime win over East Stroudsburg (16-7, 10-7 PSAC East) in PSAC East men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Saturday. Shepherd ran its win streak to five games.
Wordlaw connected on 10-of-19 field goals with a 3-of-6 effort from three-point range. He was 5-of-7 from the foul line.
Junior guard
Marcus Banks (Clinton, Md./Riverdale Baptist) added 26 points, seven assists, six rebounds, and a pair of steals. Sophomore forward
Favor Okigweh (Edgewood, Md./Parkville/The Winchedon School) posted a double-double with 20 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Sophomore guard
Brody Davis (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) contributed five points and 11 boards. sophomore forward
Daouda Traore (Silver Spring, Md./Clinton Grace Christian/St. Thomas Aquinas) tossed in nine points, while freshman guard
Colby White (Buckingham, Va./Blue Ridge) had eight.
Saleem Payne scored 20 points and Ethan Maynard added 18 for the Warriors. Adrian Brito scored 15 points, while Jalen Pichardo recorded a double-double with 13 points and a team-high 11 rebounds.
Shepherd had a 35-31 advantage at halftime.
The game featured 16 lead changes and 12 ties. The Rams held the lead for 34:39.
After East Stroudsburg took a 73-71 lead on a layup by Brito with 2:08 left in regulation, Traore scored on a dunk off a pass from Banks with 1:14 left to force overtime. Saleem Payne fired in a three-pointer for the Warriors in the final seconds of overtime to force a second extra session. The Rams outscored ESU, 16-11, in the second overtime to notch the win.
Shepherd connected on 46.4 percent (32-89) of its field goals with a 40 percent (8-20) performance from three-point range for the game. The Rams drained 80 percent (28-35) of their free throws.
East Stroudsburg shot 55.1 percent (38-69) from the floor with a 26.1 percent (6-23) effort from beyond the arc. The Warriors hit 59.1 percent (13-22) from the foul line.
Shepherd had a 42-36 rebounding edge. The Rams forced 14 turnovers and committed 12.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they host Millersville for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
