Box Score 2 SALEM, Va. – Shepherd University (4-6) split a pair of games in softball action at the MEC Crossover at Salem on Sunday. The Rams gained an 11-3 win against Davis & Elkins in game one and dropped a 5-1 decision to Glenville State in the later game.
Shepherd took a 2-0 lead in the first inning against the Senators on a two-run double by junior first baseman
Brenna Collis (Hedgesville, W.Va./Hedgesville).
After the Senators scored a run in the first, the Rams added a pair of unearned runs in the second to take a 4-1 advantage.
Holding a 6-2 lead in the fourth, Shepherd added a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth to take an 8-2 advantage. Collis hit a solo blast to key the rally.
After both teams each scored a run in the fifth, the Rams plated two in the sixth to end the game early via the eight-run rule.
Collis went 3-for-4 with a homer and two doubles to pace the Rams.
Senior pitcher
Natalee Harvey (St. Albans, Vt./Missisquoi Valley Union/Kutztown) picked up the win. Saylor Kneeland took the loss for the Senators.
Glenville State took a 2-0 lead in the later game with a pair of runs in the first. Delaney Warnick and Kylee Goodman each had run-scoring singles.
Shepherd got a run in the fifth when junior shortstop
Sadie Kittoe (Winchester, Va./James Wood) walked and later scored on a single by junior catcher
Madelyn Chambers (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point).
The Pioneers got an RBI-single from Emma McLean and a two-run single from Zailees Seda in the seventh to close out the scoring.
Sophomore outfielder
Haylee Hartman (Keedysville, Md./Boonsboro) went 3-for-3 to lead the Rams.
Maci Bogess (7.0 IP, 9 H, 1 ER, 4 K, 3 BB) (1-0) earned the win. Junior pitcher
Madelayne Ruffner (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) (6.1 IP, 7 H, 5 ER, 7 K, 0 BB) (1-4) took the loss.
The Rams return to action on Sunday when they face West Liberty at 10:00 a.m. and Charleston at 2 p.m.
