Shepherd Softball Splits with Bloomsburg

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Shepherd University (14-14, 9-7 PSAC East) split a doubleheader with Bloomsburg (19-9, 10-6 PSAC East) in PSAC East softball action at Bloomsburg on Friday. Bloomsburg gained an 8-1 win in game one, while Shepherd earned the split with an 8-5 triumph in the nightcap.
 
Bloomsburg took a 2-0 lead in the first inning in the nightcap behind solo blasts from Taylor Kranzley and Sydney Thompson.
 
Shepherd plated six runs on five hits in the third to take a 6-2 lead. Sophomore outfielder Payton Weaver (Fairplay, Md./Williamsport) hit a two-run single to key the rally.
 
The Rams added two runs in the fourth. Junior first baseman Brenna Collis (Hedgesville, W.Va./Hedgesville) had an RBI-single and freshman catcher Julia Alexander (Damascus, Md./Damascus) drove in another run when she walked with the bases loaded.
 
A two-run double by Alizabeth Schuler keyed a three-run rally for the Huskies in the fourth.
 
Collis, Weaver, sophomore outfielder Haylee Hartman (Keedysville, Md./Boonsboro), and Freshman infielder Hailey Putnam (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville)each had a pair of hits to lead an 11-hit attack for the Rams.
 
Kranzley went 3-for-4 for the Huskies.
 
Junior pitcher Madelayne Ruffner (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) (7.0 IP, 10 H, 5 ER, 14 K, 1 BB) (7-6) picked up the win. Josie Straigis (3.1 IP, 3 H, 8 R, 7 ER, 4 K, 2 BB) (6-5) took the loss.
 
The Rams took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning in game one on a solo blast by Collis.
 
Bloomsburg tied the game with an unearned run in the bottom of the frame.
 
The Huskies took a 2-1 lead in fifth on a solo homer by Schuler.
 
Bloomsburg added six runs in the sixth with a two-run homer by Reagan Wiest igniting the rally.
 
Sarah Yamrick went 3-for-4 for the Huskies.
 
Collis had a pair of hits for the Rams
 
Yamrick (7.0 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 5 K, 5 BB) (11-3) gained the win. Senior pitcher Natalee Harvey (St. Albans, Vt./Missisquoi Valley Union/Kutztown) (5.1 IP, 9 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 2 K,  4 BB) (5-5) took the loss.
 
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to East Stroudsburg for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
