BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – Shepherd University (24-22) dropped a 4-2 decision to Seton Hill (26-24) in PSAC Softball Tournament action at Grand Slam Park on Thursday. The loss eliminated Shepherd from the tournament.
Seton Hill took a 3-0 lead in the first inning. The scoring was keyed by a two-run double by Angelina La Marca and a solo homer by Kassidy Wittig.
Shepherd plated a run in the fourth as freshman third baseman
Hailey Putnam (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) singled and later scored on a ground out by sophomore outfielder
Payton Weaver (Fairplay, Md./Williamsport).
The Griffins added an insurance run in the sixth on a solo homer by Shelby Telegdy.
Shepherd added a run in the seventh as sophomore infielder
Jordan Gugliuzza (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson) led off with a single and later scored on a ground out by sophomore outfielder
Haylee Hartman (Keedysville, Md./Boonsboro).
Gugliuzza went 2-for-2 to lead the Rams.
Telegdy went 2-for-3 to pace the Griffins.
Telegdy (7.0 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 3 K, 3 BB) (12-10) earned the win. Junior pitcher
Madelayne Ruffner (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) (7.0 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 15 K, 0 BB) (15-8) took the loss.
The Rams await word on a possible regional bid. The regional field will be announced on Monday, May 11.
