SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- The Shepherd University volleyball team (9-1) split a pair of matches at the Butcher Center on Friday. The Rams dropped a 25-18, 25-20, 25-14 decision to IUP (7-3) in the early match and rebounded with a 25-23, 25-14, 25-23 victory against Pitt-Johnstown (6-3) in the later match.
Sophomore right side
Emily Ryder (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg) had 11 kills to pace the Rams in the win over UPJ. Senior outside hitter
Amya Davis (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) added eight, while sophomore outside hitter
Ada McCoy (Bunker Hill, W.Va./Musselman) had seven.
Senior middle hitter/right side
Sophia Ryan (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe Woodbury) added six kills and seven blocks (one solo).
Junior setter
Maggie Smith (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland/Loyola) contributed 30 assists, six digs, and two aces. Junior libero/defensive specialist
Allison Wood (Reedley, Cal./Immanuel/College of the Sequoias) recorded eight digs while freshman libero/defensive specialist
Alexa Smith (Hedgesville, W.Va./Hedgesville) and freshman outside hitter defensive specialist
Vitoria Villa (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) each added six.
Carolyn Knight had 10 kills and Kiara Harmon added eight for the Mountain Cats.
Davis had 12 kills to lead the Rams against Indiana (Pa.). Ryder and McCoy each had six.
Villa had a match-best 15 digs for the Rams.
Kyra Schmidt and Jessica Neiman each had nine kills for the Crimson Hawks.
The Rams return to action next Friday when they travel to Millersville for a 7 p.m. match.
