#23 Shepherd Football Falls at #3/4 Kutztown

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Shepherd University (3-1, 0-1 PSAC East), ranked 23rd in the latest D2Football.com Poll,  dropped a 28-18 decision to #3/4 Kutztown (4-0, 1-0 PSAC East) in PSAC East football action at Andre Reed Stadium on Saturday,

After a scoreless first quarter, Kutztown opened the scoring on a 46-yard run by Craig Miller with 14:19 left in the second quarter to take a 7-0 advantage.

Jaedyn Stewart scored on a four-yard run with 11:46 left in the second quarter to up the Kutztown lead to 14-0.

Graduate student quarterback Michael Hardyway (Winchester, Cal./Oceanside/Bucknell) scored on a 17-yard run with 2:31 left in the half to cut the lead to 14-6.
Judd Novak teamed with Brady Collins on a 15-yard scoring pass with 14:55 left in the fourth quarter to up the lead to 21-6.

Hardyway fired a 23-yard scoring strike to senior wide receiver Daryl Harper (Frederick, Md./Northwest) on with 3:39 left before Collins went 40 yards for a score to make it a 28-12 Kutztown lead.

Shepherd capped the scoring with an 11-yard scoring pass from Hardyway to Harper in the game's final minute.

Hardyway completed 17-of-24 passes for 112 yards. Novak connected on 13-of-20 passes for 142 yards for the Golden Bears.

Harper added six catches for 57 yards to lead the Shepherd receivers. Lenniek Preston had four catches for 49 yards for Kutztown.

Sophomore running back Jabril Daniels  (Cumberland, Md./Fort Hill) had 16 carries for 53 yards to lead the Rams. Miller had 11 carries for 136 yards to pace Kutztown.

Shepherd had 210 yards of total offense while Kutztown totaled 391 yards, including 249 on the ground.

The Shepherd defense was led by sophomore defensive back Tyrin Chinn-Thompson (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck), sophomore linebacker Tyvon Callaway-Toles (Fort Washington, Md./Dr. Henry A. Wise), and sophomore linebacker Chase Loftis (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun Valley). Chinn-Thompson had seven assisted tackles, while Callaway-Toles and Loftis each had six stops. Eden Johnson led Kutztown with six tackles (three solos).   
  
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Millersville at noon.
