CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Shepherd University volleyball team (7-0) handed West Virginia State (4-2) a 25-12, 25-19, 25-12 setback at the UC/WVSU Crossover on Saturday.
Sophomore outside hitter
Ada McCoy (Bunker Hill, W.Va./Musselman) posted 16 kills with a .442 attack percentage to lead the Rams against West Virginia State. Sophomore right side
Emily Ryder (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg) added six kills, while senior outside hitter
Amya Davis (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) had five kills, four aces, and six digs. Freshman outside hitter defensive specialist
Vitoria Villa (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) also added four aces and six digs.
Junior setter
Maggie Smith (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland/Loyola) had 26 assists and five digs, while freshman libero/defensive specialist
Alexa Smith (Hedgesville, W.Va./Hedgesville) and junior libero
Gracie Zartman (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown/St. Mary's) each contributed eight digs.
Carmen Perez had 10 kills and eight digs to lead the Yellow Jackets.
The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they host West Liberty for a 7 p.m. match.
