WHEELING, W.Va. – Shepherd University swept University of Charleston in quarterfinal action of the Mountain East Conference Volleyball Tournament at Wheeling Jesuit on Thursday afternoon. The Rams recorded a 25-13, 25-23, 25-15 win over the Golden Eagles.
Senior opposite/outside hitter
Valerie Bour (Willoughby Hills, Ohio/Willoughby South) led the Rams with 13 kills and six digs.
Freshman opposite
Kayleigh Helgesen (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino) added nine kills, while senior middle hitter
Kayla Motheral (Sterling, Va./Potomac Falls) contributed eight kills and four blocks. Junior outside hitter
Taylor Allen (Inwood, W.Va./Musselman) had seven kills and a team-best .462 attack percentage.
Senior setter
Taylor Belella (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg) had 35 assists and nine digs and freshman libero/defensive specialist
Kelsey Anderson (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County) posted a match-high four aces to go along with six digs. Senior outside hitter/defensive specialist
Lauren Wilkins (Winchester, Va./Sherando) had a team-high 11 digs.
Clairissa Larry recorded seven kills to pace the Golden Eagles.
Shepherd improves to 18-12, while Charleston completes its season at 9-19. The Rams return to action on Friday when they face the winner of today's West Liberty-Fairmont State match in the semifinals at 5 p.m.
