Kyle Ransom (Shepherdstown, W.Va./Jefferson/California { Pa.}) scored a goal and assisted on another to lead Shepherd University to a 4-2 win over Chowan University in men's soccer action at Chowan in the season opener for both schools on Thursday.
The Rams took a 2-0 lead into intermission behind first half goals by freshman midfielder/forward
Myles Newhouse (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) and Ransom.
Shepherd got second half goals from senior forward
Ricky Johnson (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) and freshman forward
Jeff Kammerer (Woodstock, Md./Marriotts Ridge). Johnson tallied an unassisted goal, while Kammerer scored on a cross from senior defender
Michael Cella (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot).
The Hawks got a pair of goals from Christian Funes.
Junior goalkeeper
Alex Aleshire (Hagerstown, Md./Williamsport) had 12 saves for the Rams, while Marco Lujan had three saves for the Hawks.
Chowan had a 22-15 advantage in shots and a 9-3 edge in corner kicks.
Shepherd improves to 1-0, while Chowan falls to 0-1. The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host East Stroudsburg for a 2 p.m. contest.
