Shepherd Men Down Davis and Elkins; Davis Sets Three-Point Mark

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore guard Steffen Davis (Accokeek, Md./Maret School) scored a game-high 35 points to lift Shepherd University to a 100-75 win over Davis & Elkins in men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Wednesday night. Davis set a Shepherd and Butcher Center record with 10 three-pointers on the night.

Shepherd moves to 3-0, while Davis & Elkins falls to 0-3.

Davis connected on 11-of-17 field goals with a 10-of-13 effort from beyond the arc. He was 3-of-5 from the foul line.

Sophomore forward AJ Carr (Fairfax, Va./Saint James School) added 19 points, six rebounds, and six assists. Junior forward Mike Reed (Abington, Md./Patterson Mill) had 11 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, while freshman forward Winston Burgess (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) also tossed in 11 points.

Senior forward Ryan McTavish (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll/Bridgton Academy) had nine points and seven boards, while freshman guard Marcus Adkison (Annandale, Va./St. Andrew's Episcopal) added nine points and six assists. Junior guard Naim Muhammad (Waldorf, Md./North Point) contributed six points and a game-high nine assists.

Wesley Sprinkle scored 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Senators. Kevin Bracy-Davis added 14 points, while Teron Owens added 13. Kevin Simpson added 11 points and four assists.

Shepherd shot 44.6 percent (37-83) from the floor with a 54.8 percent (17-31) performance from three-point range. The Rams drained 9-of-14 free throws (64.3 percent). Davis & Elkins shot 49.1 percent (27-55) from the floor with a 28.6 percent (4-14) effort from beyond the arc. The Senators hit 17-of-21 (81 percent) free throws.

Davis & Elkins had a 40-39 edge on the boards. The Rams forced 18 turnovers and committed five.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Glenville State for a 4 p.m. game.
