Shepherd Men Run Past Shippensburg

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore guard Steffen Davis (Accokeek, Md./Maret School) scored  26 points and sophomore forward AJ Carr (Fairfax, Va./Saint James School) added 20 to lead Shepherd University to a 93-67 win over Shippensburg in men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Sunday.

Shepherd improves to 4-4 overall, while Shippensburg drops to 5-5.
 
Davis hit on 9-of-15 field goals with a 6-of-9 effort from three-point range. He was 2-of-3 from the foul line. Carr was 8-of-12 from the floor with a 3-of-4 performance from beyond the arc. He drained his only free throw attempt. Carr also handed out six assists.

Junior guard Naim Muhammad (Waldorf, Md./North Point) contributed 17 points, a team-high eight rebounds and five assists, while sophomore guard Skyler Roman (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) added nine points and a game-high eight assists. Senior forward Ryan McTavish (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll/Bridgton Academy) tossed in nine points.

Jay Hardy had 17 points to lead the Raiders. Dustin Sleva added 15 points and a game-high 18 rebounds.

Shepherd had a 32-27 advantage at the break behind 11 first half points from Carr.

Shippensburg trimmed a 14-point deficit to six points at 65-59 after a three-point play by Sleva with 7:22 left in the game. Shepherd proceeded on a 13-0 run to take a 19-point lead at 78-59 with 4:43 remaining that was capped by a dunk by Davis.

Shepherd shot 50.7 percent (37-73) from the floor with a 46.7 percent (14-30) performance from three-point range for the game. The Rams drained 5-of-9 free throws (55.6 percent). Shippensburg shot 36.6 percent (29-59) from the floor with a 17.2 percent (5-29) effort from beyond the arc. The Raiders hit 10-of-12 free throws (83.3 percent).

Shippensburg had a 43-40 edge in rebounding. The Rams forced 12 turnovers and committed just five.
