WHEELING, W.Va. – Shepherd University swept Wheeling Jesuit in MEC baseball doubleheader action at Wheeling on Monday. The Rams recorded an 11-2 win in game one and added a 6-2 triumph in the nightcap. Shepherd set a program record by extending its winning streak to 17 games to break the old mark of 16 set last season.
The Rams plated nine runs in the fifth inning of game one to pull away for the win.
Senior outfielder
Matt Wilson (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley/Essex CC), had a two-run double, senior first baseman
Dom Wyshinski (Pennsville, N.J./Pennsville Memorial) had a two-run single, and senior third baseman
Bryce Shemer (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill/Colorado Mesa) smacked a two-run single to key the rally.
Shemer went 3-for-3 with three RBI to lead the Rams.
Brock McGivern had a pair of hits to lead Wheeling Jesuit.
Senior starter
Bryan DiRosario (Alexandria, Va./Hayfield Secondary School) (6.0 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 8 Ks, 1 BB) picked up the win to improve to 5-0. Benjamin Standiford (0-3) took the loss for the Cardinals.
Shepherd rallied with six runs in the sixth in the nightcap to keep its streak intact.
Wilson had a two-run double and senior infielder
Zane Bard (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) added a two-run single to highlight the inning.
Shemer went 2-for-2 and was the game's only player with multiple hits.
Junior pitcher
John Bentley (Stephens City, Va./Sherando) (5.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 3 K, 1 BB) picked up the win to improve to 2-0. Senior
Brian Martin (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) (3 K, 0 BB) tossed hitless ball over the final two innings. Wheeling Jesuit starter Joe San Felippo (1-1) took the loss.
Shepherd improves to 20-2, 20-2 in conference play, while Wheeling Jesuit falls to 6-13, 5-9. The Rams return to action on Friday when they host Glenville State for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
