SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Sophomore guard
Skyler Roman (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) scored a career-high 33 points to lead Shepherd University (12-11, 7-10 MEC) to a 108-94 win over Notre Dame College (16-7, 10-7 MEC) in MEC men's basketball action at Notre Dame on Thursday night.
Roman connected on 11-of-17 field goals with a 6-of-9 effort from three-point range. He was 5-of-8 from the foul line.
Sophomore guard
Steffen Davis (Accokeek, Md./Maret School) added 26 points fueled by a 6-of-12 effort from beyond the arc. Senior forward
Ryan McTavish (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll/Presbyterian) tossed in 22 points with a 6-of-11 effort from three-point range.
Junior guard
Naim Muhammad (Waldorf, Md./North Point) added 10 points, a game-high nine assists, and eight rebounds. Sophomore forward
AJ Carr (Fairfax, Va./Saint James School) had nine points and grabbed a team-high 14 rebounds.
Tyree Gaiter had a game-high 35 points for the Falcons. He added eight assists. Will Vorhees had 18 points and a game-high 15 rebounds.
Shepherd never trailed in the contest and had a 57-35 advantage at halftime.
The Rams led by as many as 29 points in the second half and cruised to the victory.
Shepherd shot 54 percent (34-53) from the floor with a 52.5 percent (21-40) performance from three-point range. The Rams drained 19-of-24 free throws (79.2 percent). Notre Dame shot 43.7 percent (38-87) from the floor with a 24.4 percent (11-45) effort from beyond the arc. The Falcons sunk 7-of-13 free throws (53.8 percent).
Notre Dame had a 44-40 edge on the boards. The Rams forced 13 turnovers and committed 19.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Urbana for a 4 p.m. game.
