SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Senior wide receiver
Billy Brown (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) had nine receptions for 209 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead Shepherd University (4-0, 4-0 MEC) to a 38-17 win over Notre Dame College (3-1, 2-1 MEC) in MEC football action at Notre Dame on Saturday.
The Rams took a 7-0 lead when freshman running back
Brandon Hlavach (Baltimore, Md./Eastern Tech) scored on a two-yard run with 9:52 left in the second quarter. Junior kicker
Zach Wise (Berkeley Springs, W.Va./Berkeley Springs) added the extra point.
Notre Dame answered back with a 23-yard field goal from Kyle Kaplan with 13:43 left in the second quarter.
Minutes later junior running back
Malik Harleston (Washington, D.C./McKinley Tech) scored on a seven-yard run to give the Rams a 14-3 lead.
Senior quarterback
Jeff Ziemba (Newark, Del./St. Mark's) teamed with Brown on a 74-yard scoring play with 27 seconds left in the half to give the Rams a 21-3 advantage.
Malik Grove fired a 33-yard scoring strike to Mitchell Shegos with 11:57 left in the third quarter.
Ziemba and Brown teamed on a 61-yard scoring pass with 5:15 left in the third quarter.
Junior defensive lineman
Myles Humphrey (Upper Marlboro, Md./Dr. Henry A. Wise) picked up a fumble and raced 77 yards for a score with 14:40 left in the fourth quarter.
Wise added a 38-yard field goal with 10:28 remaining and Notre Dame concluded the scoring with 8:02 left in the game as Grove and Shegos teamed on a 58-yard score.
Ziemba completed 21-of-35 passes for 354 yards and two scores. Grove completed 14-of-30 passes for 20 yards and a pair of scores.
Hlavach led the Shepherd rushing attack with 20 carries for 103 yards. Grove had 20 carries for 26 yards to lead Notre Dame.
Sophomore wide receiver
Ryan Feiss (Forest Hill, Md./North Hartford) added five receptions for 100 yards for the Rams. Shegos had seven catches for 122 yards to pace the Falcons.
Shepherd amassed 489 yards of total offense, while Notre Dame totaled 257.
Senior linebacker
James Gupton (Waldorf, Md./North Point) and junior defensive back DeAngelo Niler each posted a team-high eight tackles to lead the Shepherd defense. Xavier Dowdell and Jake Chestnut each had nine tackles (5 solo) to pace the Falcons.
The Rams return to action on Oct. 8 when they host Glenville State for a noon contest.
