Shepherd Softball Sweeps Notre Dame

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Shepherd University (13-8, 3-3 MEC) swept a doubleheader with Notre Dame College (9-12, 1-5 MEC) in MEC softball action at Notre Dame on Friday. The Rams gained a 2-1 win in game one and added a 6-0 victory in the nightcap.

Shepherd took a 1-0 lead in the second inning in game one as junior outfielder Jessica Robinson (Glen Burnie, Md./Glen Burnie) singled and later scored on a single by sophomore outfielder Morgan Cox (Halifax, Pa./Halifax).

The Rams increased their lead to 2-0 in the fourth as freshman shortstop Debbie Stuart (Warrenton, Va./Kettle Run) led off with a single and scored on a single off the bat of sophomore catcher Rachel Taylor (Marshall, Va./Fauquier).

Notre Dame cut the lead to 2-1 in the fifth as Nicole Luciano doubled and scored on a single by Rachelle Miller.

Junior pitcher Kaitlin Munda (Nokesville, Va./Kettle Run/Francis Marion) (7.0 IP, 7 H, 1 UR, 3 K, 1 BB) (5-5) gained the complete game win for the Rams. Miller (5.0 IP, 10 H, 2 ER, 2 K, 1 BB) (1-4) took the loss for the Falcons.

Shepherd took a 1-0 lead in the second in the nightcap on an RBI-single by sophomore outfielder Kaitlyn Konopka (Medford, N.J./Shawnee).

The Rams plated five runs in the sixth to cap the victory. Taylor had a two-run double and Konopka added an RBI-single to highlight the rally.

Konopka went 3-for-4 to lead the Rams, while Taylor and Stuart each had a pair of hits.

Shelby Stephens, Erin Calhoun, and Halli Swiger each had two hits for the Falcons.

Senior pitcher Tara Hanson (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) (5-2) (7.0 IP, 6 H, 1 K, 0 BB) earned the win for the Rams. Taylor Olson (7.0 IP, 9 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 2 K, 1 BB) (5-5) took the loss for the Falcons.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Urbana for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
