Shepherd Men Fall at Lincoln

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa.  –  Zahrion Blue scored a game-high 17 points to lead Lincoln University (11-4) to an 80-59 win over Shepherd University (7-5) in men's basketball action at Lincoln on Saturday.

Blue was 4-of-7 from the floor with a 2-of-3 effort from three-point range. He drained 7-of-8 free throws.

Senior guard Derek McKnight (Teaneck, N.J./Gaston (N.C.) Day School/Louisburg CC) led the Rams with 14 points, while freshman guard Jon Preston (Brandywine, Md./Rock Creek Christian) added 13. Preston also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

Lincoln had five players in double figures as Gevon Arrington had 14 points, Josh Page had 12, Deaquan Williams tossed in 11, and Cameron Campbell had 10.

Lincoln had 38-25 advantage at the break and never trailed in the contest.

Shepherd rallied to within six points at 58-52 after a three-pointer by sophomore guard Jarrell Jones (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg/Alderson Broaddus) with 7:19 left in the game. Lincoln closed the game on a 22-7 run to seal the win.                                           

Shepherd connected on 30.2 percent (16-53) from the floor with a 19.4 percent (6-31) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit on 67.7 percent (21-31) of their free throws.

Lincoln shot 44.4 percent (28-63) from the floor with a 35 percent effort (7-20) from three-point range. The Lions shot 77.3 percent (17-22) from the charity stripe.

Lincoln had a 47-36 advantage in rebounding. The Rams forced 11 turnovers and committed 12.

The Rams return to action on Thursday when they travel to Concord for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
